India's Seeds Act 2026 requires QR codes on every commercial seed packet.
Beyond compliance, counterfeit agrochemicals and fake seeds cost the industry billions annually — and cost farmers their harvests.
Jekson Vision delivers end-to-end serialization, aggregation, print verification, and consumer engagement solutions purpose-built for agrochemical and seed manufacturers. We have been doing this for over 25 years, across 100+ countries, for some of the world's most recognized names in agriculture.
Traceability is no longer optional. Here is what is already mandatory and what is coming.
India's proposed Seeds Act 2026 — introduced in the Budget Session to replace the 1966 legislation — mandates QR codes on every commercial seed packet, compulsory registration for all seed entities, and a nationwide National Seed Traceability Portal. Penalties for non-compliance reach ₹30 lakh and up to three years' imprisonment for fraud.
What you need: QR code printing and verification at seed packaging level + data portal connectivity.
China's revised mandatory national standard for agricultural seed labeling (effective October 1, 2025) requires a QR code on every seed packet label, linked to traceability data covering variety, origin, and batch. This applies to all seeds marketed in China, including imports.
What you need: Unique QR code per packet at seed packaging lines + traceability data hosting.
The problem is larger than most manufacturers acknowledge. According to the FAO, counterfeit or substandard seeds account for more than 30% of seed sales in parts of sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia — a problem estimated at $1.5–2 billion annually.
The damage is not limited to lost revenue. Fake seeds rob farmers of their entire season. This destroys the brand that a legitimate manufacturer has spent decades building.
Serialization and QR authentication give you the tools to fight back. Every seed packet carries a unique code that can be verified by distributors, retailers, and farmers — instantly, on a mobile phone, in any language.
Jekson Vision covers every layer of the seed traceability stack — from the packaging line to the farmer's mobile phone.
| Use Case | Challenge | Solution | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Use Case 1Line-level Serialization | Apply unique identifiers to every seed packet at line speed | Serialization hardware integrated with REETRAK software | QR Code, GS1 Data Matrix, 1D Barcode, RFID supported |
| Use Case 2Print & Code Verification | Verify every printed code is readable, correct, and meets quality standards before leaving the line | BPO Clarity — AI-powered print and barcode inspection | Label verification, QR code grade checking, OCR/OCV on variable print data |
| Use Case 3Aggregation | Build aggregation hierarchy: primary pack → carton → shipper → pallet | TS200 / TS201 aggregation stations with REETRAK | Full parent-child hierarchy for supply chain visibility and recall capability |
| Use Case 4Supply Chain Visibility | Track product from factory through distributor network to dealer and farmer | REETRAK + REESOURCE (L4/L5 cloud platform) | Real-time product location data; warehousing, depot dispatch, last-mile visibility |
| Use Case 5Consumer Authentication | Enable farmers and distributors to verify products at point of use | Consumer-facing QR authentication via mobile | Farmer verifies authenticity in under 10 seconds; counterfeits fail authentication |
| Use Case 6Loyalty & Consumer Engagement | Run loyalty programs, gather field feedback, and engage farmers directly via QR | REETRAK Loyalty & Consumer Engagement layer | Loyalty points, geotagging of application location, direct farmer-manufacturer feedback loop |
| Use Case 7Multi-Site Architecture | Manage traceability across multiple manufacturing sites and tolling partners | REETRAK multi-site architecture with unified cloud platform | Single serialization platform, centralized data, consistent compliance posture across all sites |
Seed traceability has unique challenges that distinguish it from conventional serialization:
High-value hybrid varieties must be traceable to prove genuine parentage. Counterfeit seeds claiming to be a premium variety — but containing a lesser cultivar — are a documented problem in India, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
Seed packets range from single-seed sachets to 5kg bags. Codes must be applied at high speed without damage to primary packaging. Label size constraints are a real engineering challenge.
The end user of a seed is a farmer, often in a rural or semi-urban location. The verification mechanism must work on a basic smartphone, in the local language, without requiring app download.
Buyers, certification bodies, and importers require batch-level documentation — germination rate, moisture content, field trial data, OECD certification reference — linked to the physical product.
Jekson Vision's serialization and QR platform is designed to handle all of these constraints. Code printing is line-integrated for packets of any size. Consumer-facing QR verification works on any smartphone without an app. Batch documentation links to traceability records at production time.
India's Seeds Act 2026, China's revised seed labeling standard, and OECD certification requirements for export markets are creating a defined compliance window. Seed manufacturers who build their traceability infrastructure now will be ready. Those who wait will face a compressed, expensive retrofit.
Jekson Vision has been building serialization and traceability solutions for the agrochemical industry since before most current regulations existed. We have deployed systems for some of the largest names in global agriculture, and we understand the operating environment — seasonal production cycles, multi-SKU complexity, variable packaging formats, and distribution networks that stretch from factory gate to smallholder farms.
We are not a pharma company that has adapted its platform for agrochemicals. We are a multi-industry traceability company with dedicated expertise in agriculture, agrochemicals, and seeds — and the installations to prove it.
Our solutions scale from a single packaging line at a regional formulator to multi-site enterprise deployments at global agrochemical majors. We support implementation, training, ongoing maintenance, and regulatory updates as country-level requirements evolve.

"Our experience of working with Jekson has been fantastic. The entire Adama team is very happy that Jekson is a very customer-oriented organization and the support service is very, very good."
