Problem Statement
It was observed that some of the products reached the market without any identification / wrong identification (OCR / codes), which was identified in the supply chain itself. If these products had reached customers/consumers, the brand might have faced a lot of backlash and the brand reputation would have been hampered a lot in the market. Also, this might have encouraged counterfeits in the market.
Jekson Approach
Help us know you more!
Our technical expert team understood the problem after the discussion with the customer, there were two major challenges that our team observed
Need for a machine/system, which inspects all the products for accuracy and correctness of code, which also has a rejection system that would reject the products if they do not meet the organizational/statutory requirements in terms of identification
The solution needs to be cost-effective and should also meet the line speeds
With the expertise and experience our team came up with a solution that was plug and play and easily be delivered in the set time frame and set budget from the customer. The idea was to introduce a system that would inspect each product manufactured and can reject the products if they do not meet the requirements.
After the visit to the customer’s site, it was observed that one production line has the flexibility to manufacture different products at different speeds. Which then implied that the proposed solution must incorporate different products.
Solution:
A conveyor system was proposed which is equipped with the cameras for inspection. This conveyor has the capacity and capability to handle different products (different sizes of cartons) and can operate with line speed to facilitate smooth operation. These cameras are connected with Jekson’s REEVIEW software which can identify, inspect and reject if required different codes along with OCR.
The solution was installed on all the production lines to inspect 100% of the products that are manufactured. The rejection criteria for these lines were set as below:
No prints
Damaged codes
Duplicate code
Wrong code
Smudging
Wrong character/s
Missing character/s
The products that do match the required criteria are rejected with the help of a pusher rejection mechanism into a secure rejection bin, which ensures that no rejected product reaches market.
Results
The project was executed within 12 weeks, of the conceptualization. There were tangible results to the customer, with the help of this deployed solution customer is now confident that the products reaching the market are identified and are traceable through the track and trace solution. This has helped our customers improve their brand reputation and fight counterfeits, which has boosted end user's confidence in customer’s brand
